Fatal Train Accident in Upper Darby

A driver lost his life at an Upper Darby railroad crossing on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

An outbound train on the Media/Elwyn Local SEPTA line was running on schedule at the time of the accident. Emergency crews were called to the scene near the train station at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.
First responders tried to free the driver from the vehicle for over 30 minutes before pronouncing him dead at the scene.
No one on the train was injured, SEPTA said. Service was suspended until 4 p.m. and trains operated on the inbound tracks only for the evening rush resuming full service at 9:30 p.m.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
