During a car crash on Tuesday afternoon, a teenage bicyclist sustained fatal injuries. Around 2:50 pm, an 18-year-old woman was driving her car when she struck a boy who was crossing the street on his bicycle in Lower Makefield Township, Pennsylvania near the local elementary school. The teenage bicyclist sustained several personal injuries and was taken to Saint Mary Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Although many traffic laws exist to protect bicyclists, oftentimes motorists are unaware of them or disregard them. Since bicycles provide little to no safety features, bicyclists are at-risk for sustaining personal injuries or even fatalities if they engage in an accident with another vehicle. If bicyclists do survive the accident, they may experience debilitating injuries and mental trauma that interfere with their quality of life.
