The Racketeer Corrupt Organizations Act (“RICO”) is a federal statute that allows a party to obtain triple damages plus attorney fees if the party prevails on certain categories of business torts and fraud claims.

While the client may still be found liable for breach of contract damages, the threat of punitive RICO damages has been removed.
