It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of our Founding Partners, colleague, and friend, Murray S. Eckell, Esq., who passed away on March 19, 2026. We were privileged to have worked with Murray for many years and to benefit from his leadership; he will be deeply missed.
Murray began his legal career in 1959 following graduation from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He went on to co-found Eckell & Sparks in 1964, laying the foundation for the firm as it exists today. Over more than six decades, he built a distinguished career spanning personal injury, real estate, and commercial law, and played a central role in the firm’s growth and evolution, serving as its chief executive officer for many years.
His contributions to the legal profession extended well beyond the firm. Murray was appointed as Judge of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas in 1977. When his term expired, he chose to return to his partners in the active practice of law.
He remained deeply involved in bar associations at the local, state, and national levels, and held numerous leadership roles, earning widespread recognition for his service.
“It is with profound respect and heartfelt admiration that we commemorate the life of Murray S. Eckell, a man whose enduring legacy is imprinted upon the legal fabric of Pennsylvania and the hearts of all who had the honor to know him. …Murray’s journey was one characterized by tenacity, intellect, and an unwavering commitment to justice…”
Murray’s legacy is one of leadership, dedication, and commitment to both the legal profession and his community. His impact on this firm and on those who had the privilege to work alongside him will not be forgotten.
